Sam Shiffman
Sam received a B.A. in Chemistry from Queens College, CUNY and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Iowa. He joined 3M in 1974 and has held a variety of technical and managerial leadership positions in the Corporate Research Laboratory charged with problem-solving based on materials characterization.
In 2001 he accepted a position as a Six Sigma Black Belt and supported numerous projects related to productivity, cost reduction, safety, and product development. He has been active in teaching the Six Sigma methodology at 3M and has been a speaker for the 3M program “Applied Leadership Principles,” discussing Leadership and Six Sigma Process Improvement. He recently accepted a position as Laboratory Manager in 3M’s Software, Electronics, and Mechanical Systems Laboratory, heading the Complementary Systems Innovation group and coaching the ideation process.
As a member of 3M’s Laboratory Leadership Roundtable, he participated in Leading Beyond in 1998 and has been affiliated with the Centre since 2001.
