Doug Menikheim

Captain Menikheim retired from the U.S Navy in 1984 after a 28-year career. During that time the focus of his effort was in leadership positions, having commanded three combatant ships and a shore station. Following his naval career, he joined Honeywell, Inc. as the Director of Executive Development for the Aerospace and Defense Business.

He affiliated with the University of St. Thomas as a faculty member in 1986 and taught in various graduate programs since. He was appointed an adjunct professor in 1991, and was a co-founder of Leading Beyond, a leadership development program for senior executives. In 1999, he created the Leadership Center in Hamline University’s Graduate School of Public Administration and Management. In 2003, he co-founded the Centre for Applied Leadership, a private venture.

Captain Menikheim has a BS in Naval Science from the United States Naval Academy, a MS in Personnel Administration, is a graduate of the Naval War College, and has completed the course work for the PhD in Organizational Psychology.

He is the father of three daughters, two stepdaughters and a stepson. He and his wife, Mary Louise, returned in the fall of 1994 from a year-long, around-the-world “adventure” during which they visited 20 countries, 2 city states and one republic. He has spent significant time in China and Taiwan leading graduate classes and observing leadership/organizational practices in those cultures.
